Indeed Jeff. I chose the "IKEA effect" as the vehicle for this essay only because it conveys my point more vividly: that we cling not only to the things we own, but to the things we actively participate in creating.
And also, you know, for its superior commercial appeal compared to the more obscure "endowment effect." IKEA sounds more like home. Perhaps the tables will change when "Endowment" starts selling their furniture.
But yeah, I reckon both effects would've worked. Today, anything described as "The something's effect" has that extra nudge of captivation. I propose we baptize this phenomenon as "The Effect" effect.
